U.S. manufacturer Tecumseh is introducing a series of new propane (R290) compressors for the food retail market.

The new AL series will be unveiled at the Chillventa eSpecial and ATMOsphere America conference, taking place online October 13-15 and October 20-22, respectively. Tecumseh, based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, will showcase the new compressors via live webinars.

“In Tecumseh’s history, we have produced a number of legendary compressors such as Series AE and AJ,” said Doug Murdock, CEO of Tecumseh. “We are excited to introduce another game-changing platform that we believe will set the industry standard for the refrigeration community.”

The AL Series is suitable for display cases, reach-in coolers and ice machines. It has up to 15% better energy efficiency, and is roughly 5% smaller (in height) than similar products, according to a Tecumseh press release.

The AL compressors come in capacities from 0.36 to 0.52kW (0.1 to 0.15TR) at low temperature, and 1 to 1.5kW (0.28 to 0.43TR) at medium temperature, measured according to the EN 12900 standard. They provide up to 20cc of displacement, meaning they deliver the “same capacity as a larger displacement, single-speed compressor, making more room for merchandise in refrigeration units,” according to Tecumseh.

Tecumseh, founded in 1934, specializes in hermetic reciprocating, rotary and scroll compressors. The company also offers condensing units for residential refrigeration, commercial refrigeration, and air conditioning applications.
