• Whisper-quiet: 8.7kWh/day and 46dBA – up to 20 times quieter than previous generation freezers
  • Natural refrigerants: lower environmental impact and higher cooling efficiency
  • Water-blown foam insulation: eliminates the refrigerant out-gassing common in other foam products

Just launched on the European and Asia-Pacific markets, the new Thermo Scientific TSX Series ultra-low temperature freezers use hydrocarbon refrigerants providing a sustainable solution, designed for less power consumption, less noise and higher efficiency without compromising the integrity of samples.

The TSX offers a 50% reduction on energy usage compared to conventional refrigerant ultra-low freezers, and delivers temperature uniformity that continuously adapts to a laboratory’s environment.

Conventional ultra-low temperature freezers use single-speed compressors that continually cycle on and off, resulting in poor temperature recovery following door openings.

V-Drive variable speed technology

The Thermo Scientific TSX is the only freezer of its kind equipped with the unique V-Drive technology, which is designed to operate at a low-speed to reduce energy consumption while maintaining a uniform temperature. When samples are added to the freezer and its doors opened frequently, the control system detects the activity and increases the drive speed to bring temperatures quickly back to the set point.

Energy efficiency is a feature most lab managers and sustainability officers look for when making purchasing decisions, but energy savings can come at the expense of sample integrity,” said Chris Champlin, Vice President and General Manager, Controlled Temperature Technologies at Thermo Fisher Scientific. “The new Thermo Scientific TSX ultra-low temperature freezer delivers unparalleled efficiency, noise reduction, and sample protection. Now, labs can not only reap the benefits of significant energy savings, but also feel confident that their samples are in an environment designed for their protection.”

More product features:

  • 600-box sample capacity to maximize storage within a 1.06m2 footprint
  • Intuitive touch screen interface for access to vital freezer information
  • On-board computer and USB port for data storage and exchange
  • Currently available in Europe and Asia/Pacific in a 50Hz version

In order to achieve a -86°C cabinet temperature the TSX Ultra Low Temperature freezer uses a cascade refrigeration system with two cooling systems in series, connected by an interstage heat exchanger. One stage uses R170 and the other stage uses R290," explained Jose Bonet, R&D Director - Cold Storage, Thermo Fisher Scientific.

More product advantages:

  • Whisper-quiet: 8.7kWh/day and 46dBA – up to 20 times quieter than previous generation freezers
  • Natural refrigerants: lower environmental impact and higher cooling efficiency
  • Water-blown foam insulation: eliminates the refrigerant out-gassing common in other foam products
  • Manufactured in a zero waste-to-landfill facility: 93% recycling, 7% waste to energy

The TSX freezer is set to be introduced in North America at the ISBER Forum 2015 (International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories) taking place in Phoenix, Arizona from 5-9 May.
