Sanhua partners with United for Efficiency

On 24 May, Chinese manufacturer Sanhua announced its partnership with United for Efficiency (U4E), a United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)-led initiative that aims to reduce global electricity consumption by 10% and annual CO₂ emissions by 1.25 billion tonnes by 2030.

Key to reaching this goal is the transformation and acceleration of the global market for energy efficient lighting, refrigeration, and air conditioning equipment.

"Excited to announce that leading Chinese cooling manufacturer #Sanhua becomes our newest Partner," U4E said on its Twitter account.

"Together, we [can] accelerate the global transition to #energyefficient refrigerators and air conditioners."

"As a United for Efficiency Partner, Sanhua will support the development of new training and policy tools for United for Efficiency to use when helping countries on their journeys to energy efficiency," said Sanhua in a statement on its website.

"By creating low-carbon and energy-efficient cooling and heating solutions in the HVAC&R and home appliances, Sanhua is committed to making sustained efforts to [improve] thermal energy efficiency and [is] looking forward to providing our technical expertise and guidance to support market transformation."

Natural refrigerants key to energy efficiency

At the Energy Efficiency Global Forum 2018 event , held on 21-22 May, just a few days prior to the announcement, Sanhua Holding Group's Vice President and Chief Scientist, Dr. Huang Lin-Jie addressed a crowd of more than 400 government officials, business leaders, and media about the importance of using natural refrigerants to achieve the target set by Kigali.

"The realisation of the Kigali target requires the use of more climate-friendly refrigerants while promoting the energy efficiency of refrigeration, so as to promote market transformation," Dr. Huang said.

"If the market capacity of air-source heat-pump systems is predicted to reach 2.5 million by 2020," he said, "the use of microchannel heat pump technology and the use of R290 environmentally friendly refrigerant can reduce CO2 emissions by 37.7MT, equivalent to planting 2.1 billion trees."

Central to Sanhua's product offering is their line of R290 and CO₂ components such as R290 and CO₂ electronic expansion valves and R290 microchannel heat exchangers.

The presentation was made during a panel session titled "How to Achieve Cooling Objectives in a Warm World: Achieving Sustainable Refrigeration Demand in an Age of Climate Change."
