Following a successful application by HyChill under Australia’s National Workforce Development Fund, the Federal Government will provide 2/3 of the total fee for the training of 80 air conditioning/refrigeration technicians in natural refrigerants hydrocarbons and CO2. Technicians are invited to register their interest by the end of the month.
With the commencement of the carbon price on HFCs that is set to increase fluorocarbon refrigerant prices by 3 to 5 times from 1 July 2012, interest among the Australian industry in the use of natural refrigerants is rapidly increasing. In spite of a generally low level of awareness among end users, innovators in the Australian industry understand there are big opportunities in being able to provide natural refrigerant solutions.
Under the awarded Project, the Australian Government's National Workforce Development Fund will contribute up to two thirds of the cost towards the training of operatives across two natural refrigerant Skill Sets, namely:
Administration and training providers
The project will be managed by the Australian Government declared Industry Skills Council named EE-Oz Training Standards.
Training will be provided by various Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), institutes and colleges across the country.
Declaration of interest in HC and CO2 training by end of March 2012
Parties that are interested in receiving training in hydrocarbons and/or CO2 need to register their interest in this first round before the end of March 2012, by contacting either:
Through the National Workforce Development Fund (NWDF) the Australian Government provides $558 million over four years to support training and workforce development in areas of current and future skills needed. Industry is required to make a co-contribution to training costs.
It is part of ‘The Building Australia’s Future Workforce’ package announced by the Australian Government on 10 May 2011 in the 2011-2012 Budget. The overall package provides a $3.02 billion investment towards a new approach to delivering the skilled workers needed by the economy and to ensuring more Australians have the opportunity to share in the nation’s prosperity.
