RSES and ESCO Agree to Collaborate on HVAC&R Training

The Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES) has signed a joint memorandum with the Energy Services Company (ESCO), stating that the organizations will collaborate to improve HVAC&R technician competency.

RSES based in Rolling Meadows, Illinois (U.S.), offers education and certification to the HVAC&R industry, including a training program on hydrocarbons, while ESCO based in Mt. Prospect, Illinois, serves the HVAC&R and building science with education programs.

A Memorandum of Understanding between them, signed on May 11, is a statement of the companies’ shared goals.

Shared initiatives are currently underway and will be announced in the coming weeks, according to the RSES website.

Previously they had sought to improve HVAC&R expertise individually, “but have each been doing so only addressing part of the industry,” according to the RSES website.[1] Now, “[t]hrough this collaborative effort, they are creating a cradle-to-grave educational pathway for the HVAC&R Industry.”

Closer formal collaboration between the parties will yield better shared education initiatives, and specialists more well versed in the spectrum of HVAC&R competencies, they said.

RSES Executive Vice President Lori Schiavo anticipated the collaboration would ensure that “this great industry is maintained by the very best students, technicians, facility managers and contractors who are learning, continuing to learn and are already in the field making a difference each day.”

Likewise, Executive Director of ESCO Institute Renee Tomlinson noted that “ESCO and RSES share a common goal of educating the industry.”

“While each organization has a slightly different focus, the amalgamation of the talent and resources of these two organizations in the various areas of overlapping efforts could lead to producing a more unified, skilled and stronger industry,” added Tomlinson.
