UNIDO ATMOsphere Technology Summit - HC-290 as an Alternative Refrigerant for Split AC Systems in High Ambient Temperatures

published Jun 04, 2013 - 15 pages

Daniel Colbourne's presentation looks at research testing HC-290 and HCFC-22 split ACs at high ambient temperatures. Results show HC-290 ACs are well suited to high ambient regions:

  • Variation in COP at high temperature for HC-290 same as with HCFC-22
  • Variation in capacity of HC-290 same as with HCFC-22
  • Consistent with the theoretical calculations, but marginally better results observed Daniel

Colbourne's presentation draws attention to the fact that there have been surprisingly few published studies on high ambient, but those that have been conducted indicate that R410A performance relative to R22 declines at higher temperatures.
