Multiple scholarships of $2,000 will be given to suitably qualified candidates for the study of HVAC&R.

Women in HVACR (WHVACR), a Damascus, Maryland (U.S.)-based organization that supports women working in the HVAC&R industry, is offering two categories of student scholarships for women at the early stages of their studies.

Under the WHVACR Scholarship Program, multiple scholarships of $2,000 will be given to suitably qualified candidates for the study of HVAC&R topics at a technical college or trade school; or in a bachelor’s degree program at a four-year college.

WHVACR points out on its website that HVAC&R is an industry with a promising future for graduates. “With over one third of the population in the U.S. retiring in five years, current industry estimates project a need for 86,000 employees over the next five years.”

The scholarships will “help the industry fill this demand now and going forward with deserving and qualified candidates,” says WHVACR.

The technical college/trade school is open to female high school seniors or older with a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher. The four-year college scholarship is open to female high school seniors or older with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Applicants for either scholarship must complete an application form and essay.

Prospective applicants can apply here for the scholarships. WHVACR will announce the winners towards the end of June. As well as the two student scholarships, WHVACR also offers a single scholarship of $2,665 for its online Tech Launch Program. As the organization puts it, “the HVACR Tech Launch Program is a comprehensive online HVACR education program encompassing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration.”
