The Viessmann Group – a European manufacturer of refrigeration solutions including propane heat pumps for commercial use and hydrocarbon refrigeration units – announced the takeover on 9 January of German firm Tschritter GebäudeTechnik GmbH, an installer of CO2 transcritical refrigeration systems, subject to anti-trust approval.

"We are delighted that we will now be combining Viessmann's expertise in refrigeration cabinets, cold rooms and refrigeration systems with Tschritter's high service orientation,” said Frank Winters, CEO of Refrigeration Solutions at Viessmann. “Together we will be able to offer our customers, including food retailers, even more comprehensive turnkey solutions for their needs. The focus is on northern Germany.”

Tschritter GebäudeTechnik has installed CO2 transcritical systems at several Rewe supermarkets, using some of Germany-based manufacturer TEKO's systems. “Tschritter uses the natural refrigerants ammonia (R717), carbon dioxide (R744) and water (R718),” its website states.

The Gifhorn/Hannover-based company also has installed ammonia-based industrial refrigeration plants in northern Germany. Oliver Tschritter, son of company founder Harald Tschritter, will continue to manage the company’s activities.

He said: ”There is a strong need for refrigeration technology in Germany. Additionally we have the customer request for turnkey solutions from one source. In Viessmann we have found a reliable and strategically important partner to fulfill this easily understandable request extensively.”
