Australia Association launches digital smart card licensing solution

In an effort to support the continued upskilling of Australia's HVAC&R technicians in preparation for the HFC phase-down already underway, the Australian Refrigeration Mechanics Association (ARMA) has, this month, launched a new digital license solution called the ARMA Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Smart Card.

The system, accessible on your smartphone, allows consumers the ability to quickly see individual tradespeople qualifications via QR code and tradespeople to hold all qualifications in one place.

In addition, the smart card aims to encourage individuals and companies to seek properly certified tradespeople in their local areas when requesting servicing or maintenance.

"The card ties in with businesses being able to advertise with us on our social media platform and website, allowing consumers to simply enter their suburb or postcode on our map to locate a local qualified RAC tradesperson," said Kim Limburg, Chief Executive Officer for ARMA.

Australia began reducing bulk imports of HFCs on 1 January, beginning with a 25% cut. As the country's HVAC&R industry undergoes this transition away from the use of HFC's and towards alternative solutions such as natural refrigerant technology, the new digital card solution represents the industry's ongoing efforts to revamp and future proof qualification and licensing structures.

"In support of Australia’s international agreements to reduce greenhouse emissions the ARMA smart card benefits include raising consumer awareness and ensuring appropriately skilled tradespeople are carrying out the work," said ARMA on their website.
