New mobile application to upskill Australia in NatRefs

Training and upskilling has been identified as one of the core needs of the HVAC&R industry in Australia as they phase-down HFCs and transition to low-GWP alternatives and natural refrigerant technology. To fill this need, the Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC) has released a new mobile app intended to help upskill the country’s RAC technicians.

The app, which requires technicians to hold ARC Green Scheme Accreditation as a prerequisite, will provide “free access to an online ‘tool box’ full of features to help them maintain and promote their accreditation”.

The tools include quick access to a supplier directory, technical resources and information on safety and standards, and proof of Green Scheme Accreditation credentials.

ARC’s Green Scheme Accreditation is a voluntary accreditation programme intended to provide an upskilling pathway for RAC technicians in Australia who work with natural refrigerants (hydrocarbons, CO₂, ammonia) as well as class A2/A2L refrigerants and other low-GWP alternatives.

The app and the new accreditation programme are part of a number of ongoing industry initiatives intended to help technicians prepare for the transition to natural refrigerant technology as Australia begins phasing down HFCs in 2018.

These initiatives include knowledge seminars sponsored by leading industry groups as well as training programmes offered by Danfoss in collaboration with technical college TAFE NSW and a Danfoss CO₂ mobile training unit currently on tour in Australia.
