Chinese manufacturer Midea was responsible for the installation in the dormitories of the Jiaxing Nanyang Vocational and Technical College, near Ningbo in China.
As China proceeds with its phase-out of R22, Chinese manufacturer Midea recently installed some 1,060 propane-based mobile air conditioners in the dormitories at the Nanyang Vocational and Technical College in Jiaxing, in the country’s northern Zhejiang province.
Hydrocarbons21.com was invited to the technical university to see the installation during the ‘International Workshop on Designing, Production and Installation with R290 in Air-Conditioning Industry’ in Ningbo, China on 9-10 April 2017.
Delegations from the Middle East and Vietnam also attended the visit.

The units were installed in four of the technical university’s dormitories last November, according Li Fengguo of Midea, who also spoke at the workshop last month.
“After eight months of running there are no problems,” Fengguo said.
The entire cost was funded by the school itself. Contributions from the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol were also provided to help promote and apply R290 refrigerant in China’s RAC industry.
Other Chinese manufacturers have carried out similarly large installations. GREE installed 243 in 2015 in Shen Zhen University in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China, while HAIER has installed 53 in the UNDP Building in Beijing, China.
Midea has also done projects in other warm ambient regions, including at Seychelles University in the Seychelles.
