Danfoss to showcase new products for natref systems at Chillventa 2016

The Danfoss Group – one of Denmark’s largest companies – operates in refrigeration & air conditioning, heating & water, and motion controls. Its refrigeration and air conditioning division specialises in automatic controls, compressors and electronic sensors.

Ammonia market changing

Anders Juul, Danfoss segment strategy manager for CO₂, refrigeration and air conditioning controls, explains: “I’m expecting to see that the market has changed. Low-charge systems are even more hyped than before, I think a couple of solutions have come into play. It would be great to see the new innovative solutions coming from the manufacturers.”

For industrial applications, Danfoss will launch new additions to their ICF defrost module range at Chillventa 2016. “It’s an innovative way of defrosting that can save users energy,” Juul says.

Specialising in retail with CO₂, propane

Hydrocarbons and CO₂ are both competing in the retail market as solutions to the EU’s F-Gas Regulation.

Juul says: “Propane is a fantastic refrigerant from an energy point of view. The market has changed a lot and people are embracing propane more than ever. There has been some talk of changing legislation or at least working on legislation on flammable refrigerants as well.”

To reflect the changing market, the EVR series of commercial valves is now available for propane.

“Also for food retail we will be showing the extension of the CCMT valve range. This a fully serviceable high-pressure transcritical control valve with a fully integrated filter and transmitter, which so far we are seeing good traction on in the market,” Juul says.

Optimising technology with ejectors

So far Danfoss has sold about 100 ejectors to help improve the efficiency of the transcritical CO₂ cycle, mainly in Europe.

“We know that our ejectors are installed in more than 30 supermarkets or systems globally,” he says. These supermarkets will benefit from more efficient use of CO₂ transcritical systems in warmer ambient climates.

Nevertheless, Juul points out, “this is a journey and we are learning and this is important to optimise our technology and get the best out of your ejectors”.

The new AK-PC 782 pack controller – a multi-suction group transcritical CO₂ pack/rack controller – will also be on display in Germany. It is designed specifically to control the CO₂ rack in supermarkets and for end users to “exploit the capabilities of the rjector fully,” Juul says.
