In the newly launched GUIDE to Natural Refrigerants in China – State of Industry 2015, published by shecco, Secop showcases its XV5.0KX compressor for use with R600a. The compressor enabled the Vestfrost Solutions wine cooler to make a leap from energy efficiency class B to class A+. Other key features include low noise level and flexibility thanks to its extremely small size and weight.

According to tests conducted by the Danish Technological Institute (DTI), the Energy Technology Development and Demonstration Program (EUDP) and Vestfrost Solutions, the Secop XV5.0KX compressor enables wine coolers to achieve 47% energy savings compared to wine coolers with fixed speed compressors.

For their wine cooler Vestfrost required a compressor that combined high performance and low energy consumption with temperature precision and low noise. The Secop XV5.0KX was found to be the perfect match, enabling the wine cooler to set a new standard in energy savings.

Energy savings and great flexibility

Compared with conventional fixed compressors, the XV5.0KX can adjust the supplied cooling capacity of the compressor to the required cooling capacity by operating at different speeds. Avoiding the constant stop-and-go motion leads to a more balanced cooling temperature and also saves energy. Secop’s XV5.0KX compressor not only manages the same high performance as a fixed compressor, it also uses 36% less energy.

Due to the compressor’s extremely small size and weight, it only took minor adjustments to fit within the pre-existing cabinet. This allowed Vestfrost to capitalise on the energy saving without the need for significant design changes.

Small is the new big

The XV compressor demonstrates that you don’t need to be big to be powerful. The following specifications ensure that the compact sized unit has the same capabilities as a larger compressor:

  • Can be used in applications with evaporating temperatures of -35°C to 0°C
  • Height of 100mm and weight of 4.8kg
  • Low noise of 32 dB(A)
  • Broad dynamic range (1:4)
  • Up to 40% efficiency gain
  • Up to 20l extra storage volume in cooling cabinets
  • Adaptable capacity

Unique to the XV compressor is its external rotor motor that uses larger magnets to achieve a superior compressor efficiency. Its assembly process has no screws whatsoever and features modular design, combining the advantages of standardisation with those of customisation. This construction allows for a reduction in the use of the traditional and expensive copper material.

A new cool for wine coolers

Vestfrost Solutions are very satisfied with their decision to use the XV, with end users praising the ‘upgraded wine coolers for their ability to save both energy and total costs.

According to Jürgen Gläser, Senior Application engineer and System Specialist at Secop, “The XV5.0KX is the perfect choice for a wine refrigerator, because it is able to work with both low back pressure and medium back pressure ranges. It is very efficient thanks to its wide dynamic range. Its cooling capacity is adjustable from low to high demand with little vibration and noise.”
