Danfoss: Presented a full range of hydrocarbon optomised components designed for residential heat pumps, as well as its R290 compressors (produced by Secop). The propane (R290) DLE7.5MNX and NLE8.8MNX compressor models represented a best-in-class COP, around 30% above the previous generation for light commercial applications, specifically designed for glass door manufacturers, bottle coolers, food retail and ice cream cabinets. Compressor types DLE-MNX and NLE-MNX have now been renamed to DLE-CN and NLE-CN because tests have shown that these models will work at LBP and MBP conditions (with PTC or relay start equipment).

Components for hydrocarbons on display included the SGP sight glass for 52 bar MWP, which allows for refrigerant monitoring and leak-free performance; BML shut off valves for liquid, suction and hot gas lines; the MCX heat pump controller offering 3 programmable levels and up to 20 relays; the TGE thermostatic expansion valves featuring bi-flow for capacities up to 130kW; and the light-weight TUBE thermostatic expansion valve in stainless steal, for use with reversible operation and capacities up to 20kW.

Embraco: Compressor distributor Embrital advertised Embraco’s F Series compressors for R290 whilst ECR Italy showcased the NT2180U for R290 (propane) as well as the EMT 45CDP for R600a (isobutane). The latter was also showcased in air-cooled condensing units by Rivacold, with an operating range from 0°C to -20°C (MBP) and -20°C to -40°C (LBP).

Huayi: Made in Spain Cubigel compressor model NPT16LA for R290 was also on display at ECR Italy’s booth. The 220-240V at 50 Hz compressor for commercial refrigeration can reduce energy consumption by 50% compared to an equivalent standard compressor; thus the energy savings of the total appliance’s power consumption can be over 40%, considering only the compressor.

Frascold: The new AXH semi-hermetic reciprocating compressor series for hydrocarbons was on display at MCE 2014. Applicable in commercial refrigeration and built according to ATEX safety directive 94/9/CE, the models come in 2, 4, and 8 cylinders and can be used with hydrocarbons R290, R1270, and R600a.

Blupura: 100% made in Italy water cooler manufacturer, Blupura, has a clear environmental mission, manufacturing high quality R600a and R290 water coolers for domestic and commercial application. The company’s array of solutions on display included wall, stand-up and table-top models and also featured a unique glimpse at the R290 Fontemagna City model, a massive public water station with a sparkling water option and LCD screen. The new BCC (BroadCasting Cooler) Vision using R600a has almost the same capacities but is smaller and ideal for offices or indoor public areas. The R290 counter-top Fontemagna Compact I.T. in full stainless steel features 3 water options with production capacities 30L/hour, 60L/h and 80L/h, ideal for the hospitality sector. The BluBar, counter-top or floor standing water cooler offers 80L/h or 150L/h cooling capacities, ideal for the restaurant sector.

GEA: In addition to a sub-critical and transcritical CO₂ compressor on display, GEA Bock showcased its HGX 34P/ 315 – 4 cylinder HC compressor (R290, R1270, R600a) for air-conditioning application.

Bitzer: Featured at MCE 2014 was the 6 cylinder semi-hermetic reciprocating compressor of Bitzer’s Ecoline, model 6GEP-40P, available for both propane (R290) and propene (R1270).

Emerson Climate Technologies: Presented a range of R290 compressors for air conditioning, heat pumps, supermarket integrated display cases and indirect expansion refrigeration systems, all classified in ATEX Group II. Six models of the Copeland Scroll R290 compressors, ZH-KCU models, will be available by the end of 2014 for air conditioning and heat pump applications. The models will be available with heating and cooling capacities ranging from 4kW to 13.5kW, and up to 27 kW for tandem applications. For refrigeration, also 6 models will be available, models ZB-KCU, by mid-2014, with medium cooling capacities ranging from 2kW to 9kW and covering applications such as self-contained display cases, units for cold rooms and multi-compressor chiller systems.

Dixell: A business within Emerson Climate Technologies Retail Solutions presented its controller for plug-in units with variable speed compressors. The XRi77CX controller, compatible with R290, provides efficient management of product preservation temperature ideal for open islands, cabinets with refrigeration systems and high-end bottle or wine coolers.

Castel: At the company’s booth complete with an ice-carving demonstration, Castel displayed its series of hydrocarbon refrigerant ready components (for R290, R600) including solenoid expansion valves, check valves, receiver valves, ball valves, coils and connectors, spare parts for moisture indicators and solid core filter driers.

Other companies exhibiting hydrocarbon products at MCE 2014

Eliwell: A brand of the Invensys Group acquired by Schneider Electric is active in air conditioning controllers with a user-friendly design focus. The EO solutions for R290 or R600a refrigerated dispensers and beer taps, provides electronic temperature and ice-level control. The nEW series (models 961 and 971) designed for OEMs allows for direct control of compressors up to 2 HP in commercial refrigerators, and offers from 100 to 240Vac 50/60Hz in a single model. Suitable for hydrocarbons, this product line represents a savings of up to 20% in commercial counters.

Rivacold: Presented its air-cooled condensing units with EC fans, designed for R290 (propane), applicable in counters, cabinets and cold stores. Available upon request were the packaged units for cold rooms (FT) with a 150g refrigerant charge for each circuit.

Auer / IMA: Unveiled its high temperature HRC 70 R290 heat pump for outdoor installation, offering energy savings and low charge. The unit provides hot water at 70°C when the outdoor ambient temperature is of 15°C, and hot water temperature of “only” 65°C if the ambient temp is -20.°C. The product’s COP, as per the European standard EN14511, is 4,5.

Ener Frost: On display by Sicaf was the Ener Frost ENERCOMBI cascade CO₂ /R290 chiller for low and medium temperatures.

GMCC: Showcased its SM and SF series AC compressor for R290, as well as its LBP mini compressor for R600a, applicable in domestic refrigeration.
