With new companies, products and developments in the field of hydrocarbon technology, the international biennial exhibition Mostra Convegno Expocomfort highlighted the growing interest and acceptance of the natural refrigerant. hydrocarbons21.com provides an overview of hydrocarbon products showcased at this key event. + IMAGE GALLERY

From 23-27 March 2010 the HVAC world met in Milan, Italy to showcase and discuss latest developments in energy-efficient engineering in the context of the 37th edition of Mostra Convegno Expocomfort (MCE).

hydrocarbons21.com visited MCE to find out a growing interest in hydrocarbon technology. Discussions with companies on the trade floor revealed a growing demand in hydrocarbon technology, the fact that food retailers are talking to suppliers about the possibility of having hydrocarbon refrigeration in their stores. Compressor specialist Bock for the first time showcased hydrocarbon compressors, signaling a great market growth potential. Other manufacturers, such as Embraco and Tecumseh exhibited their ranges of hydrocarbon compressors for light commercial applications, while blupura impressed visitors with its hydrocarbon water cooler as well as its new concept of public fountain running with hydrocarbons. Finally, informal discussions revealed that more companies are expected to announce hydrocarbon products on the run up to Chilllventa, October 2010.

Companies and products

BOCK: This was the first time that compressor manufacturer BOCK showcased its hydrocarbon compressors. Bock showcased its new low cost HG34P/315-4 HC hydrocarbon compressor solution, which unlike previous models does not incorporate an ATEX module, a component that traditionally raises costs.

Embraco: Embraco showcased its range or propane compressors, including models NEK, NT and EMT for products with cooling capacity of 50 Hz. The new NEK series is characterised by very high efficiency, high cooling capacity at low evaporating temperatures in each application range and very low sound level. These improvements were obtained through significant redesign of main compressor components as valve system, suction muffler and compressor shell, while the new motors used on NEK family are designed to assure reliable starting performance and allow use in high ambient temperature applications.

Together with the NEK compressor, Embraco presented its new compact EMT model for commercial applications available for use with R290, as well as the recently launched NT models cover the top range of the cooling capacity. The NT family is 15% more energy efficient than the standard products and it has lower noise and vibration.

Tecumseh: The global manufacturer of hermetic compressors for air conditioning and refrigeration products showcased its range of hydrocarbon compressors at the event for light commercial applications available for use with R290 and R600a.

blupura: blupura showcased its R290 FONTEMAGNA water cooler, a well insulated ice-bank for high volume supply of cold, still and sparkling water, with a capacity of 150 litres per hour. The product features glass touch-screen commands and an energy saving stand-by function. Last but not least, the company presented ‘FONTEMAGNA city’, a new concept of municipal water fountain producing still and sparkling fresh drinking water of high quality using hydrocarbons, a concept developed in conjunction with ProAcqua. Using solar cells to reduce power consumption and a filtration system approved by the Italian ministry of Health with quick fittings, the companies envisage making ‘FONTEMAGNA city’ the modern version of the public water fountain.
