ATMO/DTI Online Conference First to Address Uptake of NatRefs in HVAC

shecco, organizer of ATMOsphere events and the publisher of this website, and the Danish Technological Institute (DTI), will host the world’s first online conference looking at “The Future of Air Conditioning” and highlighting the use of natural refrigerants.

The event takes place online from noon to 5 pm on June 23 and June 24. It looks at the emerging use of natural refrigerants in HVAC, which has motivated shecco and DTI to create this conference. This trend follows the now-widespread adoption of natural refrigerants in refrigeration systems in many parts of the world, the result of a combination of policy and technological advancements.

“This conference reflects years of buildup and hard work in our industry to move towards natural refrigerants in all sectors,” says Marc Chasserot, CEO of shecco. “We see this as the next transition in HVAC, and will only be a matter of time before most HVAC solutions are natural refrigerant-based.”

“To mitigate the climate impact from the increasing demand of heating and air conditioning, it becomes increasingly important to seek growth opportunities for natural refrigerants within the HVAC sector,” says Christian Heerup, Danish Technological Institute.  “Especially when seen in the light of the success and rapid increase of CO₂ as a working gas in the area of commercial refrigeration.”

Day One (June 23rd) will focus on background information crucial to the trend, including market trends, current/future policy developments, and the incentives of “clean cooling.”

Day Two (June 24th) will begin with an overview of future possibilities for natural refrigerants in HVAC.  This will be followed by eight technical case studies, which will go into detail on how these solutions work and their results.

Four of these case studies will focus on large applications and the other four on smaller applications.  They all feature different refrigerants and technologies.

It was important for the organizers of the conference to provide a wide perspective into this issue as to best inform the audience with concrete evidence that this trend is not only possible, but actually already occurring, said Chasserot.
