R290 split AC training comes to Germany

The Bundesfachschule Kälte-Klima-Technik (BFS), a German technical school for refrigeration and air conditioning based near Leipzig, will soon offer training on R290-based (propane) split air-conditioning systems.

BFS Principal Dr. Ralf Catanescu is happy that, “students can practice with new products to study similarities and differences to conventional technologies in order to prepare them for upcoming new technology solutions in the market,” according to the Green Cooling Initiative (a project aimed at promoting natural refrigerants that is funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Na­ture Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and implemented by German aid agency GIZ Proklima). 

“Given the compliance with the appropriate safety standards, the installation of such a unit follows the same steps than for any other conventional split AC unit,” added Christopher Bösel, a lecturer at BFS.

The school will conduct the training on an R290 split AC inverter unit provided by Midea Europe, which last year won the German Ecolabel award, the Blue Angel, for its R290 split AC unit. The unit is still not available commercially in Europe, according to the Blue Angel website.
