German chiller manufacturer Secon, which focuses on natural refrigerants, has become a bronze partner on hydrocarbons21.com.
German chiller manufacturer Secon has become a bronze partner on hydrocarbons21.com. The company, founded in 2010, offer chillers, dry coolers and HYCOOL, a heat transfer liquid. It also distributes compressors, which it does not produce itself.
The chillers are primarily designed for use with hydrocarbons propane (R290) and propylene (R1270). The products can also work with CO2 or ammonia.
Secon continuously develops its chillers to improve energy efficiency and reduce the charge. The German firm also offers dry coolers and condensers to complement the line of chillers. It cooperates with H.T.E. to develop the condensers.
HYCOOL is Secon’s own brine-based heat transfer liquid. The solution is non-toxic and non-flammable and suitable for most materials and oils. It can work for temperatures of up to 50°C, due to its low freezing temperature. HYCOOL is biodegradable and poses no threat to nature or the workforce. The brine has good thermodynamic properties and a low viscosity, according to Secon, which enables the use of smaller pumps to save costs.
The firm is convinced of the benefits of natural refrigerants. HFCs have a high global warming potential (GWP) compared to their natural refrigerant counterparts. HFOs have an extremely short atmospheric lifetime, and thus a low GWP. But their long-term effects are not yet known, according to the company. In addition to savings on direct emissions, Secon argues that natural refrigerants also reduce indirect emissions, thereby slashing energy bills.
