Updated solenoid valves are approved for flammable refrigerants used in food retail.

Global component maker Danfoss is releasing new EVR v2 solenoid valves through March 2018 that will support flammable refrigerants used in large chillers and commercial refrigeration.

The valves have undergone “a wide series of improvements throughout 2017,” making them “capable of accommodating the higher pressures of refrigerants and a broader range of applications,” the company said on its website. “[Ten] key features have been applied to enhance design robustness in more applications, increase functionality and make service easier.”

For air conditioning, “qualifications are planned in 2018 for alternative mildly flammable and flammable refrigerants to be used in larger chillers,” said Danfoss.

And for commercial refrigeration, the platform is approved for lower-GWP refrigerants, including propane. The EVR valves “are ideal for applications such as food retail display cases since they enable service and maintenance to be carried out quickly, with no disruption to store trading hours,” said Danfoss.

“[Thirty percent] fewer but more versatile models suit more applications and refrigerants while being backward compatible” said Allan Chara, marketing director, Cooling Refrigeration Controls, Danfoss.

The valve range is available for cooling capacity from 3 to 410 kW (0.85 to 116 TR) in the liquid line, 0.3 to 65 kW (0.08 to 18.3 TR) in the suction line and 1 to 350 kW (0.28 to 99 TR) for hot gas bypass, with connection sizes from 6 mm to 42 mm (1/4-in to 2-1/8 in).
