Sri Lanka company moves to 100% R600a refrigerators

In a sign of increasing investment in natural refrigerant technology in Sri Lanka, one of the country’s largest consumer durables retailers, Singer Sri Lanka PLC, announced last week the launch of an upgraded version of its popular line of R600a refrigerators, the Singer GEO Smart.

The announcement coincides with the Sri Lankan government’s ratification of the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol last week.

The release of the Singer GEO Smart also marks the end of the company’s sales of R134a refrigerators, as it completely switches over to R600a refrigerators.

The original Singer GEO range became the first to adopt R600a gas technology in Sri Lanka back in 2013 and has already been very successful.

“Singer GEO has been a wonderful success story for Singer Sri Lanka, having sold over 500,000 units since its launch in the year 2013,” said Singer Sri Lanka Marketing Director Kumar Samarasinghe.

"In keeping with modern times, where energy efficiency and smart technology are vital factors in developing products to meet the expectations of today’s consumers, we decided to take the Singer GEO refrigerators to the next level by introducing smart technology and launching the Singer GEO Smart."

The upgraded models also offer smart technology including Ambient Temperature, Power Fluctuation and Load Detectors, Door Sentry and Dual Temperature Control.

Singer Sri Lanka PLC offers a wide range of international brands such as Beko, Huawei, Dell, Moulinex, Tefal, Singer, SISIL, Samsung, Hitachi, TCL, Sony, Sharp, Whirlpool and Mitsubishi.

The company has over 420 retail stores and 2,800 dealers spread throughout the country.
