NatRef seminars fill knowledge gap Down Under

With HFC phase-down legislation now passed in Australia and set to begin in January 2018, the need for up-to-date knowledge among technicians, contractors, and the Australian HVAC&R industry at-large is as pressing as ever.

To address that need several Australian industry groups – Refrigerants Australia, Refrigerant Reclaim Australia (RRA), the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Contractors Association (RACCA), and the Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC) – have launched the “Future:Gas” roadshow.

This seminar series aims to provide information on changes in refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, standards, and technology – including natural refrigerants (CO₂, NH₃ , hydrocarbons) as well as HFOs and other lower-GWP HFCs such as R32.

The 12-city roadshow began on 19 June in Newcastle (New South Wales) and made its way through cities such as Sydney, Canberra, and Brisbane over the past two months. It will stop next in the city of Adelaide (South Australia) on 1 August, and continue to five other locations through 7 September.

Other topics include reasons for the phase-down of HFCs and the impact expected on equipment, training and safety practices.

Speakers include Mark Padwick of Sanden and Rene Le Miere of Bitzer, who will be talking about CO₂, NH₃, and hydrocarbons and their handling.

Future dates include: Perth (WA), 2 August; Darwin (NT), 3 August; Melbourne (VIC), 5 September; Hobart (TAS), 6 September; and Albury (NSW), September 7.
