The Quilmes brewery, one of the most important beverage companies in Argentina, has recently announced its new environmental strategy. Among its initiatives is the introduction of R290 coolers in numerous stores across the country.

On Argentina’s National Energy Savings Day, which took place on 21st October 2014, and as part of its sustainable environment strategy, Quilmes launched a new national action plan on energy efficiency. The program will involve more than 48,000 Argentinian supermarkets and convenience stores and aims to increase both retailer and consumer awareness of energy efficiency and climate change issues.

35% energy savings thanks to R290 ECO-cooler

With the introduction of the ECO-coolers, designed for R290 and equipped with state-of-the art refrigeration technology, the company expects to achieve up to 35% in energy savings compared with traditional systems, and CO2 reductions equivalent to 39,000 tons.

The main features of the ECO-coolers include:

  • Use of R290 as the refrigerant
  • LED lighting that provides savings of 197 kWh/ year per cooler
  • Electronic temperature control, that provides savings of 577 kWh/ year per cooler

In addition, a guide on the benefits of coolers employing propane as a refrigerant (R290) will be widely distributed throughout the country during one month.

Quilmes’ commitment to the environment

Through its platform called “Vivamos Responsablemente”, Quilmes has set up and implemented an ambitious programme to reduce the environmental impact of its business activities by improving their operations in terms of energy use, recycling, water consumption and CO2 emissions.
