The prestigious RAC Cooling Industry Awards 2014, which took place on 24 September 2014 in London, recognised Adcocks Refrigeration and Air Conditioning with the “Contractor of the Year“ award for its hydrocarbon chiller range, whilst Heineken took home “End User of the Year”. Arctic Circle was a finalist in the Environmental Collaboration of the Year category, recognised for their R290 chiller installation at the Fox Biscuits Uttoexter factory, and Adande Refrigeration w

Already in its 10th year, the RAC Cooling Industry Awards has provided a showcase of almost 200 award winners and 750 finalists, rewarding many natural refrigerant innovations since they first started in 2004. As in previous years, hydrocarbon refrigeration solutions received a number of accolades at the glittering awards ceremony in London’s Hilton on Park Lane.

Hydrocarbon chiller range using R1270 and Hycool, reduces energy costs by up to 15%

Headquartered in Cambridge, England, manufacture and installer of refrigeration & air conditioning systems Adcock was the winner of the “Contractor of the Year” award at the 2014 edition of RAC Cooling Industry Awards. The company’s hydrocarbon chiller range using R1270 and secondary refrigerant Hycool, reduce energy costs by up to 15% when compared to glycol solutions.

The new chillers are suitable for food production, pharmaceutical, retail refrigeration, distribution and process cooling applications as well as commercial air conditioning.

The main benefits of Adcock’s hydrocarbon chiller technology are:

  • Increased efficiency and improved Coefficient Of Performance (COP)
  • Zero global warming potential (GWP)
  • Lower energy consumption
  • Not subject to phase out controls or F-Gas
  • Reduced refrigerant charges
  • EC condenser fans
  • Fully weather proof
  • Available up to 780kW liquid cooled / 550kW air cooled
  • Possible combination with a heat recovery system
  • Fully tested and factory certified
  • 2 year warranty

Heineken, winner of the ”End User of the Year – Non Supermarket” Award for its David XL Green draught system

Heineken was also honoured as the “End User of the year – Non Supermarket” thanks to its David XL Green, the world’s greenest draught system. The energy efficient R290 fridge combined with state of the art technology achieves a 50% lower consumption rate compared to conventional draught systems.

The green draught cooling system also received the “Top Product of the Year 2014” prize at the Environmental Leader Product and Project Awards and the “Best Environmental / Sustainability Initiative of the Year” at the Canadian International Beer Awards in Prague last year.

Marketing Manager Global Innovation Erik van de Aa said, “Green cooling is a central part of Heineken’s sustainability strategy “Brewing a Better Future” and David XL Green is a significant step towards meeting our goal of reducing our carbon footprint on top of our commitment on fridges by 50% in 2020”.

Hydrocarbon finalists in “Environmental Collaboration of the Year” and “Refrigeration innovation – system or standalone” categories

Two more hydrocarbon solutions were recognised as finalists in the “Environmental Collaboration of the Year” and “Refrigeration innovation – system or standalone” categories. In the former category, the upgrade of the Fox’s Biscuits Uttoeter factory to four 350 kW R290 chillers, specified to provide 1.4 MW of cooling, earned Arctic Circle recognition. In the latter category it was Adande Refrigeration’s two-stack insulated-drawer unit that received a special mention.
