Heineken grants sustainability award for natural refrigerant system

At the Heineken International Purchasing Conference in Noordwijkerhout, the leading beverage brand has presented system supplier Frigoglass with an award for its HFC-free cooling systems contributing to Heineken's Sustainability programme "Brewing a Better Future."

Buying a fresh beer ensures the quality of the beverage but it also generates carbon emissions. Therefore, Heineken introduced a global policy earlier this year which specifies that every new cooler installed, either as a new installation or as a replacement, must use natural refrigerants with a zero global warming potential (GWP).

Frigoglass has been a main refrigerant supplier to Heineken Company for two decades and has helped minimise its energy consumption and the impact on the environment through the use of hydrocarbon refrigerants. For its contribution the supplier was now granted an award at the Heineken International Purchasing Conference. Among the benefits from its HFC-free coolers feature:
  • Up to 50% less energy consumed than equivalent units produced 10 years ago.
  • Hydrocarbons used as refrigerants and in the insulation process make the cooler range completely HFC-free.
  • Advanced assembly techniques and the use of fewer materials, contribute to increased recyclability, making the product range compatible with recycling process requirements.
