Cause marketing in the US: an opportunity for hydrocarbons

The Pepsi Refresh Project will award over $20 million in 2010 to move US communities forward in social causes, including sustainability. Submit your project now that will encourage the use of sustainable hydrocarbon coolers.

Beverage giant Pepsi Co is launching today its $20 million Refresh Project in the US. Aiming at building a two-way dialogue with consumers, participants are asked to suggest ways that Pepsi can be involved in social causes, including how to improve sustainability and the environment.

Details of the initiative

Starting today (13 January 2010), individuals can apply for grants to benefit a variety of projects starting, while from 1 February 2010, visitors of the dedicated website, www.refresheverything.com, can vote for the best ideas for funding. Up to 32 ideas a month falling under one of the categories of Health, Arts & culture, Food & shelter, The planet, Neighborhoods and Education will receive a Refresh Grant. corresponding to up to $1.3 million in Refresh Grants every month:
  • 10 grants of $5,000
  • 10 grants of $25,000
  • 10 grants of $50,000
  • 2 grants of $250,000
A bid for hydrocarbon projects

hydrocarbons21.com is encouraging the hydrocarbons community to submit proposals regarding wider pilot projects and educational campaigns on the use of hydrocarbon coolers that could accelerate the process of approving commercial use of the natural refrigerant by the US EPA and destroy .

Background

PepsiCo currently has about 4 million to 5 million vending machines and coolers around the world. It is a member of Refrigerants Naturally!, the global initiative focused on addressing climate change and ozone layer depletion caused by hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) gases.

In October 2009, the company announced that it was named for the third time to the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World) and for the fourth time to the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index (DJSI North America). The DJSI World identifies those companies that exemplify leadership in sustainability among the leading 10 percent of the world's top 2,500 companies. The DJSI North America identifies those companies that exemplify leadership in sustainability among the largest 600 North American companies.
