Austrian manufacturer AHT has joined some of the industry’s leading hydrocarbon-based refrigeration specialists as a silver partner on Hydrocarbons21.com.

AHT, part of Daikin, manufactures a variety of plug-in units using hydrocarbons, including refrigerated and freezer cabinets, ice cream freezers, semi-vertical units and overhead cabinets. The company has been using propane (R290) in its commercial plug-in refrigerators and freezers for over 20 years.

AHT also has R&D departments, offers after-sales services and holds ISO 9001 (quality management) and ISO 14001 (environmental management) certifications.

Daikin acquired AHT in February 2019 through its subsidiary Daikin Europe as part of its plans to expand into the natural refrigerants market.

Ready for the future

Starting in January 1, 2022, plug-in (hermetic) refrigerators and freezers using refrigerants with a GWP of 150 or more will no longer be allowed in the EU market, per the EU F-Gas Regulation. The opportunities for hydrocarbons in the plug-in cabinet sector have therefore never been greater, and AHT is “ready for the next steps” of the EU f-gas phase down, the company told hydrocarbons21.

“So if you rely on a refrigerator and freezer cabinet from AHT, you are not only on the safe side with regard to the EU regulation,” the company said, but you will also get products that have “quick and easy installation [and] are economical, maintenance-free, durable and flexible.”

Last month, AHT launched the KALEA Freeze, a new R290 freezer with in-box technology, meaning the entire refrigeration system is located in a pullout compartment near the floorat the front of the cabinet for easy access and down-time-free maintenance. The KALEA series is quiet and the “most energy-efficient device in its class,” AHT said in a statement.

AHT supplies its cabinets for more than just spot merchandising or islands. By 2020, AHT had supplied R290 cabinets for full-store layouts in more than 7,000 locations, mainly in Europe. AHT also has actively pursued market share for its R290 plug-in units in the U.S., having opened a production site in Ladson, South Carolina, in 2017.
