Austrian OEM AHT, part of the Daikin group, has launched KALEA Freeze Air – a series of flexible propane (R290) plug-in freezers equipped with “in-box” technology, whereby the refrigeration unit is located in a removable box at the bottom of each cabinet.

The KALEA Freeze cabinets, which have less than 150g (0.33lbs) of R290 charge per refrigeration circuit, can be used in a variety of ways: as vertical stand-alone units, as island freezers or as part of a linear wall installation with other elements, depending on what the store needs, giving maximum flexibility.

The KALEA series is quiet and the “most energy-efficient device in its class,” AHT said in a statement. The series relies on MODBUS communication to “guarantee the smooth connection of our devices to a wide variety of market surveillance systems,” the company added. Automatic de-icing by defrosting water evaporation is also possible in all temperature ranges.

In-box technology

The most standout feature of the KALEA series is the in-box technology. With this, the entire refrigeration system is built into a pull-out compartment near the floor at the front of the cabinet for easy access.

The compartment sports quick couplings that enable the refrigeration unit to be removed and replaced very quickly without any soldering or refilling of refrigerant. Work on the refrigeration unit can then be carried out off-site, and there is no down time.

The unit controller system automatically adopts the previously defined settings when the hardware is replaced, and no software updates are needed.

The latest generation of controllers allows for predictive maintenance, and the in-box technology is compatible with AHT’s own Active Monitoring System, which can detect any issues before the customer notices, AHT said.

With all these benefits, the duration of maintenance and service calls can be reduced by two-thirds, according to AHT.

The KALEA Freeze is the most energy-efficient device in its class," - AHT
