The deadline is July 31 for the C4 initiative, which aims to partner with private entity to demonstrate green cooling.

Cool Contributions fighting Climate Change (C4), a global climate initiative, is still accepting proposals from private entities to demonstrate solar-powered green (propane/R290) air conditioning in the Caribbean island of Grenada.

The deadline to apply is July 31, 2021. Applications can be submitted by e mail to: GD_Inquiry@giz.de More information is available here.

The C4 project is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).

C4 supports partner countries, like Grenada, in the development of greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation strategies in refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC). These strategies can be integrated into the countries' nationally determined contributions (NDCs), which are the national climate goals set for the Paris climate agreement.

In Grenada, C4 aims to demonstrate solar-powered green air conditioning using R290 refrigerant, in cooperation with a private partner. The company whose proposal is accepted can seek technical advice and financial support to realize green air conditioning powered by a photovoltaic system in their premises, said C4.

C4 foresees the following contributions in a joint project in 2021:

Private Partner:
  • Photovoltaic system, including inverter and battery storage
  • Energy monitoring
  • Hosting of site visit to showcase technology
  • Regular maintenance and servicing
GIZ:
  • Free assessment of cooling needs
  • Free provision of up to six efficient inverter R290 single split ACs
  • Free installment of units and synchronization with photovoltaic system
Thsi is not Grenada's first experience with R290 ACs. In 2018, Grenada's National Ozone Unit (NOU) announced it was making six energy efficient R290 split air conditioners available to end users for demonstration purposes.
