Lithuanian manufacturer Freor has started to equip Danish discount chain Netto with natural refrigerant equipment in 265 stores in Poland the chain recently acquired from Tesco.

Of the 265 stores, 260 will receive both CO2 (R744) and propane (R290) equipment, and five will get R290 cases connected to Freor’s Hydroloop system, which uses glycol to remove the heat of condensation.

Netto is a division of Salling Group, which purchased the Tesco Poland’s 301 stores and two distribution centers in March. Pre-acquisition, Netto had 386 stores in Poland. Salling Group plans to spend more than PLN1 billion (US$0.26 billion) to convert the acquired Tesco stores, according to Salling Groupo CEO Per Bank.

So far, in four converted Netto stores opened recently in Warsaw and Szczecin, Freor has installed a transcritical CO2 system along with R290 plug-in cases, Freor said in a post on its website.

Tesco-to-Netto conversions are taking place at a rate of up to six stores per week, said Freor.  “We are grateful for the trust NETTO has placed in [the] FREOR brand choosing refrigerated display cabinets for its new stores,” Freor said.

In the 260 CO2/R290 stores, Netto is using 10 JUPITER multideck chiller cabinets operating via the CO2 system, as well as one Jupiter plug-in multideck employing R290. (These are from Freor’s Green Wave line.)  The cases display meat, vegetables, dairy, beverages, and pre-packed products. The stores are also deploying one IDA promotional self-service R290 chiller showcase.

In addition, Freor is supplying the 260 Netto stores with TITAN plug-in R290 freezer and cooler islands, eight of each. (Freor distributes but does not manufacture the TITAN units.)
